Recognizing the importance of independent quilt shops to local economies everywhere, Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, is proclaimed to be Local Quilt Shop Day throughout the US and Canada.

An annual arts celebration focusing on the rich tradition and history of quilting in our communities, Local Quilt Shop Day is an internationally celebrated holiday recognizing the contributions of Local Quilt Shops and their significant economic impact on local communities.

Current River Fabrics & Quilting is celebrating Local Quilt Shop Day with some fun activities, including:

· Showcasing new lines of fabrics recently received with some fun ideas for non-quilting projects.

· Upcoming class lists with samples of class projects.

· Sneak Peek of the 2025 Shop Hop fabrics.

· Special ONE day sale.

· Drawing for a gift basket of sewing/quilting goodies.

· And more fun!

“Local quilters are invited to visit the shop to explore the latest fabrics, tools, notions, and patterns, share their latest completed quilts, and enjoy the community of other quilters,” say shop owners Pam and Ange Shaver.

“It’s a day to celebrate quilting and local quilt shops across the US and Canada, and right here in our local quilting community,” they add.

Celebrated on the 4th Saturday in January each year, Local Quilt Shop Day was established by The Fabric Shop Network, a trade association representing over 5,000 local quilt shop owners globally.

Says Laurie Harsh, founder of The Fabric Shop Network, “Local quilt shops not only provide supplies for quilting but also serve as a center of learning and creativity for quilters and sewers embracing the tradition, as well as the future of quilting.

“Quilts tell the stories of who we are, where we’ve been, and the journey we have yet to take. Through this unique art form, our communities, our history, and our future are stitched, layered, and bound together.”

The owners also say, “Current River Fabrics & Quilting has served the Doniphan/Ripley County area for over seven years and continues to grow, thanks to the support of our loyal customers.

“We hope everyone gets a chance to stop in sometime during the Local Quilt Shop Day celebrations and see some wonderful fabrics, notions and sewing ideas.”
