Current River Fabrics & Quilting located at 107 Washington Street in Doniphan is participating in shopping local quilt shop day, on Saturday, Jan, 25.
The annual event takes place on the fourth Saturday in January.
The day is designed to celebrate the creativity of sewists quilters and fabric enthusiasts all in pursuit of supporting local quilt shops.
This is a little celebration to start the new year with new fabric selections, ideas, and classes, all with some sales from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event helps to raise awareness of independent quilt shops and their importance to the local economy.
History of quilts served many purposes throughout history, not only were quilts used as bed coverings, windows, and doors they were used as currency in several ways, even as floor mats. Quilting traditionally was a social event for female bonding and completing work faster. Quilts were along exchanged as engagement gifts.
Additionally, the U.S. government during WWI encouraged Americans to “make quilts (and) save the blankets for our boys over there.” During WWII, quilting was used as a fundraising campaign for the Red Cross.
Locally, our local quilt shop has all the necessary materials and fabric supplies to celebrate your local quilt shop day. Those who attend will have an opportunity to enter into the drawing for a sewing basket that will be given away after the event.
Stop in at 107 Washington Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 to celebrate and grow our local economy one piece of fabric at a time.
