Diane’s Plaza Flowers and Gifts, located at 1307 Hillcrest Plaza in Doniphan, celebrated its membership in the Ripley County Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 14.

The event marked a new chapter for the business under the ownership of Jim and Diane Moore, who acquired it from Dennis and Genie Smith in July 2023. Diane, a Doniphan native, has a long history with the shop, having worked there from 1975 to 1995.

Diane Moore’s journey in the floral industry began 55 years ago, and her connection to the shop is deeply rooted in her friendship with former owner Genie Smith, whom she met at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Diane and Jim Moore have been married 36 years with four grown daughters and 10 grandchildren. Both have been active members of the J. A. Ashby VFW Post 3485 and Auxiliary for many years, reflecting their commitment to the community. Diane’s experience as Ripley County Public Administrator from 2013 to 2020 further underscores her dedication to local service.

Since taking over, Diane has expanded the shop’s gift selection to include everyday items and sympathy gifts. The floral arrangements now feature a wider variety of colored roses, a customer favorite.

A cherished tradition continues with the free rose name giveaway, where one male and one female name are selected weekly. Diane sources gift items from Missouri vendors, including Eleven Point Candles and Current River Signs, supporting local businesses.

Diane said, “I would like to be an active leader and business owner in our community.” Diane donates and supplies flower arrangemnents and bouquets for several local events, like school homecomings and community banquets.

Diane has a very highly experienced staff that includes Tammy Kearby, Karen Nelson, Remona Brown, Kimberly Stevens and Caitlin Moore Tennison who are eager to assist customers with their flower and gift needs. Jim did not have any experience in the industry; however, as a former Army air traffic controller he displays the skill set to maneuver scheduling orders and deliveries with grace, as if directing a plane to the tarmac.

Customers can place orders for Valentine’s Day with a 10 percent discount if preordered before Jan. 31. Orders can be made by calling 573-996-3717 or visiting the store Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
