The Doniphan Dons are gearing up for an exciting homecoming game against East Prairie this Friday night.
The game promises to be a highlight of the season. It will take place at Doniphan High School’s gymnasium, with JV starting at 6 p.m. and Varsity taking the floor at 7:30 p.m.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the matchup as the Dons aim to secure a victory on their home court.
The Dons have experienced a rollercoaster season so far. They kicked off with a strong performance at the Doniphan Jamboree on Nov. 21 and continued their winning streak with a 62-46 victory against Summerville at the Current River Challenge on Nov. 30.
The team faced setbacks with losses in their first two home games against Liberty (Mountain View) (45-61) on Dec. 5 and a close game with Greenville (65-70) on Dec. 10, respectively.
Despite these challenges, the Dons managed to clinch a narrow win against East Carter (50-48) on Dec. 13.
The team’s performance in January has been mixed, with losses to Puxico (36-65) and Twin Rivers (65-78).
Emmitt Jones was honored at the Twin Rivers game with his 1,000-point game. Emmitt is the son of Shannon Jones and Heather Allen.
A scheduled game against Naylor on Jan. 14 was canceled due to weather conditions.
The Dons are looking to turn their fortunes around with upcoming games, including an away game on Jan. 28 and a home game against Saxony Lutheran on Jan. 31.
Homecoming is not just about the game.
It’s a celebration of school spirit and community. The event will feature various activities, including the announcement of the winner of the historic gym floor raffle. This fundraiser supports school athletics and adds to the excitement of the evening.
