Doniphan High School celebrated its basketball homecoming on Jan. 24 with the crowning of senior Sarah Owen as the homecoming queen.
The event took place during the basketball game against East Prairie, marking a memorable evening for students and families. A dance followed the game with the theme, “Under the Sea.”
Sarah, the daughter of Michael and Donna Owen, is an active member of the Beta Club, Pep Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and plays for the DHS Donette basketball team.
Her future aspirations include attending Three Rivers College (TRC), becoming a teacher, and starting a family.
Sarah was escorted by fellow senior Cooper Jackson, son of Denver and Mendy Jackson.
Cooper is involved in several clubs, including Beta Club, FCCLA, FCA, Pep Club, and FBLA, and is also a member of the basketball team.
He plans to attend the University of Missouri (Mizzou) to pursue a degree in nutrition and become wealthy.
The crown bearer for the evening was Huckston Short, son of Zac and Lindsey Short.
Huck enjoys activities such as Ninja and gymnastics classes and riding four-wheelers with his brother.
The retiring queen, Kenzie Redus, passed on her crown to Sarah.
Kenzie, a 2024 graduate of Doniphan High School, is currently studying at Arkansas State University to become a speech and language pathologist.
Kenzie was escorted by Emmitt Jones, who has been active in basketball and baseball.
Throughout his high school years Emmitt has been involved in various clubs including Pep, FCCLA and Beta. Emmitt is the son of Heather Allen and Shannon Jones.
Emmitt’s future plans include finding a lucrative career.
In the meantime, Emmitt spends his free time enjoying hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, especially his brothers, and playing video games with the boys.
