The community mourns the loss of Gena Nickell Farrin, a cherished member of the Pocahontas School District. Upcoming events include a community dinner on Feb. 22 and Bunco night on Feb. 27.

By Sharoon Hastings

This has been a really hard week for me and my family.

My cousin Gena Nickell Farrin passed away on Feb. 1. Gena was the daughter my aunt and uncle, Rosemary and Frank Nickell.

She worked for the Pocahontas, Ark. School district.

Aunt Rosemary also worked in Doniphan School, and I know she followed in the path of her mom.

She was active in cheerleading and dance teams. She was a member of many groups and her signature phrase “Play Ball” was a part of her expressions.

To her children, Rusty Farrin and Ronnie Horton and their families we send our love and prayers.

Gena will be greatly missed by so many and just wish we had done more together than what we did.

On Feb. 22 Briar Church will be having a dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Highway 160 West.

They had a chili dinner a couple of weeks ago. The food was really delicious and I was so glad I went. I am looking forward to the one on Feb. 22.

I really enjoyed just sitting and talking with wonderful people. Make plans to come out and you will enjoy the food.

Birthday and anniversary wishes for Ronnie Hubbard, Wendell Murdock, and Patty and Billy Broyles.

May the Lord bless you on your special day with wonderful memories to share with those you love. May the Lord bless you with many more to come.

Bunco will be on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Ponder Community Center on Highway 142 West toward Gatewood. Bring a snack, finger food or a covered dish and come join the fun of playing Bunco.

Just think the days are staying lighter a little longer.

I am still trying to adjust to not putting more into the newspaper articles I write, but I do want to share news from are Out West community. So, please call me, message me on Facebook, or send me an email to sharonlee62@windstream.net.

May the Lord bless you this week, if you need healing or strength to deal with things in your life. Turn them over to the Lord.

Remember God loves you and so do I.
