The sixth Doniphan High School Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place on Friday, Feb. 28, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd.

The event began with a reception at 4:30 p.m. in the DHS cafeteria, followed by the induction ceremony at 5:45 p.m., just before the Donettes faced off against the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules.

The Hall of Fame committee, consisting of Anita Carrens, Gary Mathis, Mark Thompson, Christi Kirby, Debbie Littles, and founding and committee honoree member Mike Jackson, organized the event.

The DHS Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which started in 2016, has become a cherished tradition in the community. After its initial launch, the event returned in 2017, 2020, and has been held annually since 2023.

The committee has decided that future inductions will occur every five years, with the next one scheduled for 2030.

Debbie Littles, who has been instrumental in maintaining the sports record book after Darlene Blackwell, expressed her gratitude to the Doniphan R-I administration, coaches, and teacher Matt Morin for their support in making the event a success.

“There is a lot that goes into making this event successful, “ said Littles, “ together we made it a success for the fans and I am so proud.”

Christi Kirby praised Littles for her dedication, stating, “She goes above and beyond to try to gather information from the honorees, get it to the paper, organize most everything.”

The committee also relies upon and thanks Steve Inman for his photography.

For those unable to attend the event, copies of the DHS Sports Record book are available at the Prospect-News office for $15, while supplies last.
