The Doniphan Donettes concluded their regular season with an impressive 23-2 record, securing the No. 3 ranking in Class 4 in the state.
The team celebrated their senior night on Feb. 28 with a commanding 70-26 victory over the Lady Mules on their home court.
The game was a showcase of talent and teamwork, setting the stage for the upcoming district tournament scheduled for this week on March 3-7.
The Donettes’ senior night was highlighted by the performances of three seniors: Sarah Owen (23), Madilyn Redus (5), and Mayce Maness (4).
Miranda Maness, mother to Mayce and sister Maeve, (35) said it was a special moment “Mayce got to start in her senior night game with her sister. I’ve watch them on the court pretty much their whole lives and I had hoped to watch them play together.”
Owen, wearing number 23, led the charge in the first quarter, scoring 8 points, while Carsyn Hagood (2) and Ellie White (00) contributed 4 and 6 points, respectively.
The Donettes ended the first quarter with a 22-6 lead. By halftime, the score was 38-11, with contributions from Mayce Maness, White, and Redus, each adding 2 points, and Owen scoring 2 free throws. Hagood further extended the lead with two 3-pointers.
The Donettes continued their dominance in the third quarter, with Tara Davis (14) scoring two 2-pointers and additional free throws from Kenna Kirby (1), Hagood, and Owen.
The team added another 23 points in the third quarter, while the Lady Mules managed only 4. The final score was a decisive 70-26 victory for the Donettes.
As the Donettes prepare for the district tournament, their strong regular-season performance and teamwork will be crucial.
