The “Christmas Comes to Doniphan” event brought holiday cheer to the community on Saturday, Dec. 14.
The festivities kicked off at 1 p.m. with caroling at the Doniphan Community Center, featuring performances by the Doniphan High School Choir, Sovereign Grace Reformed Church, and American Patriots from First Baptist Church of Doniphan.
Despite the threat of thunderstorms throughout the day, the skies cleared just in time for the parade, which began at 6 p.m.
The route started at Walnut Street, turned right onto Washington Street, and concluded around the Ripley County Courthouse square.
Santa Claus made a special appearance, stepping down from his sleigh to greet children and pose for photos at the community center.
The parade featured a window decorating contest, with Sinnerz Ink taking home the trophy for best business display.
The residential house lighting contest awarded first place to the Spradling family on Young Street, with the Caruso family on Fourth Street and the Griffin family on Old Highway 142 taking second and third places, respectively.
The Barnett family received the People’s Choice Award.
The theme of the parade was “Christmas Comes to Doniphan,” and the float winners were Sovereign Grace Reformed Church in first place, Top Quality Rental and Sales in second, and Missouri Highlands Health Care in third.
Ashley Thompson expressed gratitude for the contributions to the People’s Choice gift basket, which included items from local businesses such as Crawdad Lane Crafts, Tractor Supply Co., and Current River Heritage Museum.
