Three have been selected for the prestigious DHS Sports Hall of Fame honor: former Doniphan athletes Morgan Davis Emfinger and Matt Rogers, and longtime Doniphan High School coach Ed Rickus, who will be inducted posthumously.
Each of the honorees have distinguished high school sports careers which make them standout hall of famers.
Coach Rickus dedicated 33 years of his teaching career on the field as Dons football coach (1976-1979), on the court coaching Donettes basketball (1984-1985), and then back out in the field coaching Donettes’ softball (1995-1999).
He was also the “Voice of the Dons and Donettes” broadcasting high school baseball and basketball games on Fox Country Radio 97.5 from 1985-2008.
Morgan Davis Emfinger, a 2007 Doniphan graduate and former Donette, had an impressive record which included being on the single games performance leaders list five times, peaking at No. 2 with 42 points.
Among other athletic accomplishments she was consistently the seasonal scoring leader from 2004-2007, won seasonal field goal status from 2005-2007, and accumulated all-district, all-conference, SEMO conference and All-state honors.
She ended her career with a score of 1,931 points, for a second place ranking.
Matt Rogers started his high school career on a high note, completing his freshman year as scoring and block leader, and was the top ranked in triple doubles.
Rogers kept up the momentum until he graduated in 2006, again earning finishing his senior year as scoring leader. He was an all-district and all-conference player in 2005, and made all-state in 2005 and 2006.
He was a member of the 25-4 all-state tournament team.
Following the induction ceremony, the Donettes will play against the Thayer Bobcats varsity at 6:30 p.m.
