Circuit Thoughts
School is officially back in session. The children of the summer are now the students of the fall and winter. This summer has come and gone like a rocket sled on rails. It just went too fast, (at least from my perspective). We have seen changes in weather, society and even in ourselves. In fact, the one thing that seems to be constant is change. There is always change.
Change is the one thing that everyone can depend on. We may not be able to dictate the type of change we will experience, but change happens. Our bodies and our minds change with age and experience. Our food intake changes over time as does the size of our favorite clothes. Our children are always changing. One time they are not able to tie their shoes, and the next we are at odds with their algebra homework. Change is always happening.
Outside the trees are starting to turn colors, and the animals are busy gathering for the oncoming winter. In our communities we are already planning for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The band and choir directors at the schools are planning their holiday performance. Change is always happening.
Yet there is one thing that does not change; You guessed it, God! (Like you didn’t see that coming.) Psalm 90:1-2” 90 Lord, you have been our dwelling place[ a] in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” The psalmist tells us that God is forever and ever. From the very beginning God was, and to the very end God will be, and for now, God is.
What does this mean for you and me? It means that we have another constant in our life. Rather than having to contend with change all the time, we can put on faith in the one person who will not change. You guessed it God.
For God so loved the world, is the way John 3:16 starts, but it also means God still loves the world. Even with all the ugly stuff that has happened, is happening and will happen, God still loves His creation. We may change, and the world may change, but God’s love never changes. It can’t because God is everlasting.
So, if God and His love is never changing, why do we have trouble with change? If our faith is in God, shouldn’t change bring about positive results? Should our love of God and love of neighbor bring about change for the better? Why fear change, when with God, we can embrace it and make it a Kingdom Building instrument.
Maybe instead of fearing all the changes that are happening, we should embrace the change and focus on how change will glorify God. Maybe we should stop the fear of change and embrace the everlasting love of God. Afterall, He has our back.
Just a thought.
Shalom my friends. See you in church.
