Circuit Thoughts
Let’s talk about good things.
Yeah, you read it right. There is so much negativity on the air waves and in the social media, maybe we should talk about good things.
Personally, I am tired of the angst and anger that has been driving wedges between people. I’m tired of turning on the news and hearing about how one person or group is worse than another. I’m tired of being told that if I disagree with someone, I am the enemy.
So, let’s talk about good things.
For instance, warm summer days, not unlike today. Days when we were kids and would play outside. Days that became balmy nights that gave us a chance to catch fireflies and watch for meteors in the sky.
Or perhaps, we can talk about our pets. Those funny little angels God gave us to care for and teach us about life and responsibility. Oh, the stories I could tell you about the dogs I have been privileged to care for. I would like to hear about your pets, whether they be horses, or hedgehogs.
Maybe we can talk about the children. It’s fun watching them grow and experience new things. I love watching my granddaughter discover new things. This time of year, we watch children ride bikes and run through the sprinkler and roll down hills. Their laughter is infectious.
Maybe we can talk about loved ones. I for one have a wonderful spouse, who just recently nursed me through COVID and makes the best chicken noodle soup in the world. (I know I am a little biased). Maybe you have that special person who means the world to you. Why couldn’t we share about them?
Maybe we could just laugh. Not the embarrassed snicker that is often associated with comedians and poor humor. No, I mean a good hearty laugh that will cleanse the soul and relax the spirit. The one where you laugh just for the sake of laughing.
Let’s talk about good things, things that don’t hurt, or cause pain. Let’s talk about dreams and hopes and love and smile.
While we are at it, let’s pray. Let’s pray a prayer of thanks that we have good times to talk about. Let’s pray for those who may have no one to share with. Let’s pray about how we can help others talk about good things. Let’s pray that even in the tough times, good things happen.
Then let’s talk about church. Not about our denomination, or doctrines. Let’s talk about the music that we sung, or the beauty of the organist’s song and the singer’s solo. Let’s talk about the word of God that was shared, and the love that came down when Christ lived among us. Let’s talk about the good parts of the sermon and leave the not so good parts in the church. Let’s talk about Christ, in and among us.
And then, let’s keep looking for the good, so we can have something to talk about the next time we come together.
I look forward to talking with you.
See you in church.
