Circuit Thoughts
This past week, I had to spend a little time in the emergency room in Poplar Bluff. It looks like I will be visiting the medical facility a few more times. Nothing too serious, but issues of (dare I say it) age and poor diet over my past 57 years.
But that is not want I want to talk about. I want to talk about angels. No, I did not pass out and go to heaven, I will leave that report to others.
As I was brought into the ER, I could not believe the compassion and care of the individuals in the ER. From the moment I was shown a bed to the moment of discharge several hours later, I was in the most capable and caring hands anywhere. The nurses and techs of PBRMC could not have been more accommodating, comforting or caring. While the diagnosis I received was not what I planned on, the care I received was beyond the pale.
That experience reminded me of Psalm 91: 11-12, “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” While I believe in the Heavenly Hosts, I also believe angles are among us. The nurses and staff of that ER reminded me that God calls all people to all places.
I have always believed that God will put you where you need to be, when you need to be there. In fact, I have lived by that mantra since I started ministry. Angels are not just heavenly beings. They are the people who watch out for you, who care for you, and fight your battles for you and yes, who even give you a ticket every once in a while.
God has placed people all around to be there to guide us and lift us up. Not all are doctors, nurses or EMTs. Some angels are plumbers, mechanics, HVAC techs, farmers, teachers, and the list goes on and on.
Who knows, God may be calling you to be his angel for someone. If we give ourselves to God, he puts us where we need to be. You do not have to have wings to be an angel, just a deep and abiding love of Christ.
The best place to begin your angel work is, you guessed it, church. Becoming part of a faith community helps in putting yourself out there for others. God calls all of us to be his hands and feet in the world. So, find that community, join it, participate, and put yourself out there. You will not be disappointed.
Many angels do not even know they are angels. Please, let these angels know how much you appreciate them. These first responders are doing their best in some of the worst conditions. They go where even angels fear to tread. Let them know they are in your thoughts and prayers.
See you in church.
