Circuit Thoughts
Let me start off this article with this statement; “God does no evil!” Okay, now that I have that out of the way, let’s talk about this.
I know that life throws us some pretty terrible curve balls. I know that when we want things to work out, they seem to go the opposite direction. I know that there are things that just can’t be fixed and that we feel like failures when things are beyond our control. The human condition is fraught with hard times, bad situations, and poor outcomes. But none of this is God’s fault.
God does no evil, or to put in the biblical vernacular; “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. (James 1:17)
God is good. We verified that when we learned that children’s meal blessing, ‘God is great. God is good. Let us thank him for our food.” (I remember praying that in school as a child). We know God is an awesome God. So why is it we are so quick to blame God for the bad. That which is good, cannot do that which is bad.
Life is a challenge. God is here to help us through these challenges. Ever since sin entered our world, we have been at odds with God’s plans. We stopped wanting to be with God and started wanting to be gods. Our ego’s still get us into trouble, and we still have problems.
The beauty of the human condition is that we don’t have to face the bad days alone. God, even with all the muck and mess that we have created, provides a way to make it through. God is able to bring good out of any and all situations. We just have to trust him.
I know sometimes we wonder what God is up to. It isn’t until later that we see God’s hand in the situation we are in. Even when we lose a loved one, God is at work showing us his grace and mercy. He carries us through the toughest times and brings us over to the other side if we let him.
Look, I know how tough life is. Being a minister, I see and have seen so much that is wrong and hurtful. I get tired of not being able to fix situations. My heart breaks when I can’t singlehandedly bring healing to a situation. The thing I forget is, I’m not supposed to fix things. Making things better is God’s arena. I can only look to him to pull me through. It’s the same for you, we have to put everything into God’s hands. That’s called faith.
Look, if you are hurting, lost, confused, or suffering maybe it’s time to get back to church and among the believers. (Might I suggest a reading of James 5.) Rest assured this trial you are going through is not from God. He, however, is working to show his grace and goodness through your storms. It may not be apparent at the time, but it is happening.
Always remember, no matter what, God’s got this!
See you in church.
