Circuit Thoughts
According to the Weather Service, meteorological spring has arrived. This is not the calendar spring which arrives with the Spring Equinox. This is the change in the weather that starts warming up the soil so life can begin anew. Already the day lilies are blooming, the frogs are singing at night and there is a warmth in the air.
When you think about it, life is just a series of cycles. We travel around the sun in 365 days, and we do it on a regular basis. In that 365-day time frame we have spring, summer, fall and winter. Things blossom and then grow and then are harvested or die. After that, the land sleeps under a blanket of snow and cold and the whole cycle starts again.
We are reminded of that in the book of Ecclesiastes. Chapter 3 tells us that there is a time for everything. I find this to be a great comfort, because I know that everything will pass, the good and the bad.
Sometimes we feel like we are stuck in a desert. We feel lost or abandoned and we don’t feel like there is much head way for us. The beautiful thing about deserts is that eventually you get out of them. When Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes, he was in a desert, and he discovered that eventually you come to an oasis.
Church is the oasis in life. It is your shade from the desert, and it is there to refresh and renew you. Even during this whole Covid thing, the church has been there to lift and support us. During times of despair and challenges, the church shows us hope and salvation.
Think about it, even death can’t defeat Christ, and Christ is the head of the church. Because of Christ, we know that whatever our desert is, there is an oasis and there is salvation.
As we are coming out of this pandemic, it is time to get back to the church. Online participation is fine, but it is nothing like live participation. We need to get back to being active in our churches and we need to start offering hope to those in need.
There is a church for you out there. There is a pew, or chair with your name on it. There is a minister out there that is willing to pray with and for you. You just need to get there.
I invite you to go to the church of your choice and find the rest and renewal you need. Like water in a desert, the church will refresh and heal you. You see, the church is the Body of Christ, and that means healing is part of its nature.
I invite you to find a church, and don’t just show up on Easter. Be in the church, be the church and help share the good news to those who are hurting or feel stuck in their personal desert. I know there is a place for you wherever you want to attend.
See you in church.
