Circuit Thoughts
As many of you may or may not know, a few months ago I received my Amateur Radio License. This past week, that license came in real handy. During the storm, I was able to get an idea of road conditions by talking to fellow HAM operators that were on the road. This led to making go or no-go decisions for getting to town.
Communication is very important in all circumstances. We cannot make proper decisions or learn new things unless we communicate. Not all communication is the same. For some it is verbal, for radio operators it can be through Morse code. For those with hearing impairments, ASL is the means to communicate. Others communicate through writing and drawing. Even music is a form of communication.
The point is, we all need to communicate somehow. It is especially important to communicate with God. It’s funny how truly simple it is to communicate with him. We call it prayer.
Prayer is the only means by which we can talk to God. Whether it is silent, verbal or written, God listens and answers all our prayers. Granted, sometimes the answer isn’t what we wanted to hear, but God does answer.
The problem is, we often make prayer a one-way communication. We do all the talking, but we fail to listen to what God is trying to tell us. We get so busy that we make those quick prayers and forget to spend some real time being in God’s presence.
This past week of being at home gave us ample opportunity to be still and listen to God, but how many of us did? How many of us used the down time to just relate and talk with God? Now that things are going to some semblance of normalcy, maybe we can take time to just get in communication mode with God.
It isn’t difficult. In fact, Christ tells us how to pray in Matthew 6:9-13. Here the disciples asked for directions on how to pray and Jesus answered thusly; “Pray then in this way: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts (trespasses) as we forgive our debtors (those who trespass against us). And lead us not into temptation.
Now this is both a prayer and a guideline. But it still shows us how easy it is to pray. It doesn’t call for fancy clothes, or secret handshakes, it just calls for sincerity and a desire to be near God.
Communication is the key to any lasting relationship, and we need to be in communication with God. If you have any questions on this, or want to know more, contact your pastor, or join a prayer group at church. I would also recommend becoming a part of a prayer chain. We all need prayer, and we all need to pray.
God bless and I will see you in church.
