Giving honor to a friend, brother, elder, a saint loved by all. Bro. Larry Joe Carter Feb. 19, 1939 ~ Aug. 14, 2020
Bro. Carter was one of those people you wouldn’t forget after meeting him. His kind demeanor and quick jokes made an impression on me after meeting him 11.5 years ago.
He was sure to greet you with a hand shake and word of encouragement. He was the grounds keeper of West Point Church in later years of his life, you would find him checking in to make sure things were good, locked up and in order.
Anytime children were around (which was often) I would hear him say how much he loved children. I would see him digging around in his pockets trying to find a quarter or something to give them. He was a faithful man, he was always to be found in the house of God. If he wasn’t there it was serious because he wasn’t known to skip services. He was proud of his family, often telling a story of them or giving high remarks about them. He was a man of prayer and could be found praying at his seat or praying with someone up front. Anytime I ever needed anything at the church, he would have a key for it for sure! He never made anyone feel like a bother and would say “Give me a minute, I’ll be right over”.
I will miss Bro. Carter, he was a constant encourager to me and my husband. He would always tell me to keep praising Jesus and never stop what I was doing. He would always say how much he appreciated us. That means a lot coming from an elder!
He was a great husband to Sis. Karen Carter and great Father to Larry “Wink”, Kristie, Sallie, Richard “Huck” and Cammie. We will never forget you Bro. Carter, you have received your eternal reward that you so diligently worked for. We love you and give you honor.
