Barbara Armour is back home from her trip to Florida. She went back to her home town of Middleburg to visit her sister. Her niece also lives there close to her mother so Barbara got to visit with both. One day they went to Tallahassee to see another niece and her family. She said it was a good visit but was happy to be back here, where she says is home, and has been for several years...

I’m sorry to have to write that we have lost another one of our good men. Yes, Ed Crumley passed away on Sept. 12 at his home. He and his wife, Willene, have been active in Naylor until his health began to fail. That makes seven since Aug. 31, Wayne Armour, David Kimbrough, Short Deckard, a three-year-old little girl, Terrel Griffin, David Guthrie and now Ed Crumley. He was 87. Rev. Stephen D. McFadden has resigned his position at Naylor First Christian Church where he has served the Lord as minister for the past 17 years. He has been an exemplary minister and follower of Jesus Christ, as well as teacher of the Bible. A former Naylor man has passed away, “Short” Deckard. He was only 70. He grew up in Naylor and has friends still living here. I am sure his obituary will be in The Prospect-News this week. Brenda Pierce left home on July 17 going to Kansas City, Mo. to visit her brother, Jim Armor. While there she went to the college graduation of her niece who graduated on July 20, with a business degree. She had a nice visit with the family. Joe and Arlene Davis are back home from a trip to Oklahoma where they visited with Joe’s daughter. They went shopping one day, but mostly just visited and enjoyed their time together. Our town has lost two of our men, Wayne Armour and David Kimbrough. They passed away two days apart. Wayne on June 30 and David on July 2. Wayne was 81 and David 85. Both men were well known by Naylor people. Wayne grew up in Naylor. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Air Force, stationed in Florida, where he met his wife, Barbara. ...

Sue Day, Hazel Slusher, Kenny and Teresa Day recently attended the wedding of Daniel Scott and Tina Radke in Rockton, Ill. Tina is the granddaughter of the late Bonnie Walker. Tina’s aunt Janet Walker and her family also attended. The ceremony was held outside on the Scott farm. Tina is a deaf interpreter and Daniel owns Scott Landscaping. The honeymoon was spent visiting sights out west. They are a wonderful couple and they all wish the couple much happiness...

On June 7, Darlene Blackwell passed away. She grew up in Naylor and married a Naylor man, Jimmie D. Blackwell. A few years later they moved to Doniphan. She was 77 at her passing. There are lots of things I could write but I’m sure her obituary will be in The Prospect-News. We all that knew her send our sympathy to her family and friends...

On May 31, Sandy Stout and daughter Bobbi Mayse went to Colorado to Sandy’s daughter, Carri Emery’s home to get their son, Issac Emery and bring him to Naylor for a visit. While there, Jessie and Carri took them to Estes Park for a day, then on Monday, June 3, they returned home. On the fourth, we all celebrated Issac’s Aunt Bobbi’s birthday. Issac plans to stay until the 12th but this is his first time to be away from his parents so it may be sooner than they planned...

Naylor has lost another good man, when on May 24 Jimmie Young, only 73, passed away in his home. All we people in Naylor send our most sincere thoughts of sympathy to his wife, Donna, and their three children and grandchildren and a host of friends. He will be sadly missed...

Last week several ladies met in the library for coffee and books. Sharaya Wright of the University Center, made a healthy snack for us to enjoy. Linda Jo, the librarian, also made some good brownies. They always have books, some that haven’t been read yet by some of us. ...

Brian and Rita Metcalf of Seward, Ill. and Rita’s brother Rob Murphy of Rockford, Ill. were here for Matt Day’s daughter’s high school graduation in Doniphan. I was honored to have a short visit with them too. It was good to see the late Jim and Colleen (Armour) Murphy family. They spent their time here with Rita and Rob’s sister Teresa and Kenny Day and their family before going back home...

Our restaurant here in Naylor, “Becca’s Restaurant”, closed May 3. The senior center and Naylor One Stop serve lunch but a restaurant in town is really needed and people to support it. Now, that’s my opinion! I really goofed in last week’s news. I changed Betty Abernathy’s son’s name from Roger to Robert. A big mistake. Probably won’t be my last. I only know of one person that was perfect - and He walked on water!!...

On Wednesday afternoon, April 17, seven women met at the library for Books and Coffee. Attending were Darlene Hutchison, Carol Grisham, Brenda Allen, Brenda Pierce, Zola Woolard, Genevieve Porter and myself. We missed Marie Wertenberger. Sharaya Wright from the University of Missouri extension served us a healthy snack and others brought cookies and cake and to go along with these goodies, a good cup of strong coffee. ...

Brenda Lepold and a friend recently went to Kentucky to see and hear a gospel singing family, The Issacs. They have been on several television shows, so I’m sure some have seen them. I agree with Brenda, they are good. After that, they went to see “Noah’s Ark”. ...

We don’t have much news this week but thanks to Teresa Day, there is some news she gave me of the school students. The elementary peewee basketball games have begun. Students in grades 3-6 can participate. We are welcome to go and enjoy watching these young boys and girls play Tuesdays and Thursday evening through the month of April...

Brenda Pierce and her sister, Anita Clinton from Senath, Mo. recently went to Oklahoma to see Brenda’s great-grand baby. On the way they stopped to have lunch in Springfield, Mo. with Anita’s granddaughter who is attending Missouri State College. They went to Tulsa and spent the night and had dinner with her grandson and family. ...

Since I don’t have any news about our residents this week, I’ll tell you a little about the early days of our town. It was a wilderness when a few settled here and with cutting so many trees there were several sawmills set up and much timber to be hauled away. ...

On Thursday evening, March 14 the yearly election was held in the senior center forelecting board members. Brenda Allen has been the president of the board several years and decided to remain no longer. Several came for the election that was held at 6 p.m. New members are Carol Grisham, Linda Lunsford and Lori McGee. The other two,, Marilyn Woolard and Reetta Ward will serve with the other three...

I’m sorry there wasn’t any Naylor news in last weeks’ paper. “I forgot it”, yes I forgot to send it in. There wasn’t much anyway. I’m still looking for someone younger to write the news. Someone that knows the events that are taking place. Brenda Lepold spent a few days in Springfield, Mo. ...

The ladies that met in the library were served lasagna by Sharaya Wright - University Extension and Emiley Lemaster who is training, and also gave us the recipe for making it the healthy way. It was very good. We had a few new books to check out. Marilyn and Linda Jo always help us find good ones. Those there were Marie Wertenburger, Brenda Pierce, Darlene Hutchison and myself. We missed those that couldn’t be with us. We always enjoy this time together...
