I was in Van Buren, Mo., got my taxes done. While we were waiting for some information “online” Roberta Bellah came in to visit with me. She was younger and we just didn’t spend much time together. Her older sisters, Angie Clark and Tabby Fisher visited lots with Mary Beth Sanders. They called me grandma. The first visit Tabby left crying. She was still crying when they visited her grandpa, Pat Riggins. I felt bad she cried but, I knew she had enjoyed her stay and didn’t’ want it to be over...

I went to church across HH-34-60 and the second Sunday fundraiser at the Carter County Nutrition Center. Got there before everyone left. It was all decorated for Easter inside and out. The children were hunting eggs in the yard. I was seated and served. I gave Lena a bag of goodies. She showed me a video of Dolly Parton singing to her with her name in lights. I recently had a very interesting conversation with a Lakota Indian. Learned new facts of history. Appreciate our visit. Our weather has been changeable again which causes more illness. Marie Cooper had a surprise 90th birthday party Dec. 11 at 20 Nobel Street (the former nutrition center.) There were 74 in attendance. She had a wonderful time visiting with family and friends. I am thankful for the gently falling rain. With the Mississippi River 18’ low we need lots of rain. Nobody wants a flood but we gotta have rain. The Mississippi is a major means of transport. We don’t like inconvenience but it happens and we do need good bridges, safe highway and signs. I’m surprised how many signs are missing, bent and down. The second Sunday fundraiser for the nutrition center was well attended. I got headed out about 10 minutes early so not quite so late. Lena was there to greet me with a hug and carry my plate. Well, the U.S. flags were flying at Ellsinore. Saw only personal flags flying in other towns. Was hoping the Turnbaul Building would have its extension ladder with flag displayed. It often is. The flags are flying again, you know I like to see the flags fly. The parade was silent this year. No horns honking, no band playing, no sirens. The music was held Tuesday at 20 Nobel Street. The crowd was small but all enjoyed being there. All heard some good singing and playing...mostly guitar but also the mountain dulcimer with some lively tunes. I don’t always make it out but always GLAD when I do. There were some Christmas songs, a few jokes and stories. Glad to see everyone one more time this year. It was decided to wait for spring to have music again...

Doris Carpenter traveled with USA Tours to Mackinac Island and Niagara Falls. This trip requires a passport because they go into Canada for events and sights. Nick was her driver. He is part owner of the company and makes sure you have a good time traveling. There is always a side site when Nick drives. Doris met several folks I know. I’m glad she took this trip. It was my first of 10 trips with USA Tours and I enjoyed each one...

Saw Joyce Carter and Aunt Frieda Boyer recently gathering door prizes for an upcoming event. We’ve been friends for years. Joyce was Beth’s school friend and spent many overnight stays with Beth. Sad to say the preaching at Handy Park, Piedmont was canceled. Someone tested positive about an hour before the start. Much preparation and prayer was involved. Travel that day was also quite lengthy. Plans are already being made to try again next year...

Several families gathered together for Thanksgiving and some continued to isolate. It is a personal thing I think. It is a strange thing that a door can say “masks required” and no mask is provided. The flags are flying. It is one of my favorite sights. Went the Valley Route recently, enjoy that route and always see wildlife, but was nearly home before wild turkeys flew up and away. Usually always see deer and have even seen eagles. When I traveled that route more often I would see large flocks of turkeys almost daily. Sam let someone hunt one year and they got a turkey. I’ve not seen the large flocks any more...

The blossoms are gone from the vacant lot next door. I was really pleased there were blooms after the complete stripping of the property.
