Kay and Nona Lehenbauer

Kay Francis Lehenbauer, 88, of Doniphan, departed this life Nov. 9, 2023. He was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Watonga, Okla., to the late Frank and Eva (Syria) Lehenbauer. After 20 years of employment with Chevron and having already served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, Kay retired and moved to enjoy retirement in Ripley County.

Kay’s wife, Nona Faye Lehenbauer, 85, passed away five months later on April 18, 2024. She was born Dec. 9, 1938, in Ripley County to the late Chloe and Christine (Webb) Rawlings. Nona was an interior designer and was also the owner of an ostrich ranch, Cottonwood Farms, in Midland, Texas. She, too, enjoyed the slower pace of Ripley County and living closer to family.

Surviving is a son, Gary Lehenbauer of Doniphan; Kay’s brothers, Bill Rawlings of Doniphan and Joe Rawlings of Kansas City; and a granddaughter.

The Lehenbauers were preceded in death by a son, Kent F. Lehenbauer.

Graveside services for Nona and Kay Lehenbauer will be held in the Doniphan City Cemetery on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend the services honoring the Lehenbauers.
