Giovanni Lane, 34, of Doniphan, was sentenced to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for Domestic Assault in the First Degree after pleading guilty to causing serious injury to a female victim.

In a press release issued Tuesday, Ripley County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Michel has announced that Giovanni Lane, 34, of Doniphan was sentenced to serve 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to Domestic Assault in the First Degree.

Lane entered his plea on Dec. 16.

According to the Ripley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the case against Lane was a result of an incident which occurred throughout the day of June 18, 2024.

At the time of the guilty plea, Lane admitted to causing serious physical injury to a female victim by repeatedly striking her with a closed fist, a stick, and a chair.

During the sentencing hearing, the Honorable Circuit Judge Kacey Proctor received statements from the victim as well as a video clips of the defendant assaulting her throughout the day.

After arguments were concluded, Judge Procter sentenced Lane to 15 years.

According to Prosecuting Attorney, Matt Michel, since Domestic Assault in the First Degree is considered to be a “Dangerous Felony,” Lane will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence.
