DHS Cheer Competition Team Advances To State

DHS Cheer and coach Zachary Taylor say a prayer and thank you following regional competition in St. Louis on Sept. 21, after placing sixth in 3A small division. The next destination for DHS Cheer is State Competition in Columbia, Nov. 2.

“Exited and proud” is how Coach Zachary Taylor describes his admiration of the work that DHS Cheer displayed this past weekend.

DHS Cheer competed at St. Louis regional competition on Sept. 21 in the 3A small division, in which they placed sixth.

The competition marks the second year to compete for the DHS Cheer group, coached by Taylor.

DHS Cheer walked away a second year in a row with an invitation At-Large Bid to the State Competition, scheduled to be held Nov. 2 in Columbia, Mo.

Taylor said, “As a coach, I’m very proud of these kids! “

Taylor complements the dedication of time that has lead to the improved scores, by adding a few more skills in the routine, and adding more difficulty to the routine.

Taylor is no stranger to cheerleading. He was a member of the cheer team all four years of his time at DHS. Taylor graduated in 2014.

Taylor has been the DHS Cheer coach for the past three years. During his second year at DHS, Cheer competed in regionals for the first time in 2A division and placed ninth.

The DHS Cheer team has four seniors this season that will not be returning next year. The amazing factor to consider is that more than half of the this year’s DHS Cheer members have never competed.

Stacy Taylor, cheer mom, is referred to as the music manager for Cheer competition. She said the girls are “ready to work.”

With that statement and dedication to prayer Taylor would like to thank the community for all of the love and support that has been shown on DHS Cheer’s journey to advance to State.
