During the past couple days, I’ve had some Godwink encounters. Yesterday, I was sitting down at the park under a shade tree, having “tele coffee” with my friend Nancy up north. During the past couple days, I’ve had some Godwink encounters. Yesterday, I was sitting down at the park under a shade tree, having “tele coffee” with my friend Nancy up north. The day was sunny and breezy, the scents of autumn thick in the air.

I watched a kiddo zip around on one of those “razor” scooters (is that what they’re called? Not sure). I saw his brother walking the track. Could it be? They looked soooo familiar. I told Nancy I’d call her back. So I hollered out scooter rider’s first name.

Lo and behold, he came running across the parking lot. He hollered to older brother, who has grown at least two feet since I saw him last. It was just like old home week! I asked if they remembered how they helped me on the bus.  They did.  One was window closer, and one was a buddy to a younger rider. I have a pic on my phone now to remember them by.

Fast forward to today. I stopped to get a few groceries after an invigorating swim at Pocahontas, Ark. Could it be? It was!! I told her she’d been on my mind, especially every time I listen to Defender by Francisca Batistelli. I’d have never known this beautiful song existed had she not shared with me how much she loved it. And yes, she rode my bus. Oh, yes, she added, “I can’t believe you didn’t color your hair!!”

Before I left the store, I ran into one of my preK kiddos who has suddenly turned into a senior this year. Her mom was with her, it was good to see her as well. Senior girl is working on getting her driver’s license and is working at her first job. “Did you retire? Well, you deserve it after all these years!”

I’m getting misty eyed as I write these words. I don’t miss driving the bus, but I sure miss the kiddos. I received a much needed lift, not to mention hugs all around. God sure works in mysterious ways. I’m STILL smiling!
