The fourth annual ReeseFest in Naylor had a late start due to rain; however, by 11 a.m., June 8, the Judson Ward Memorial Park was filled with citizens celebrating the dedication of the Reese Ainley Play Place, a much-needed recent addition to the grounds. A community worship service led by Bud and Bonnie Goins of the Family Worship Center in Poplar Bluff opened the event. Throughout the afternoon the grounds resounded with music and family activity. Vocalist Maddy Cauthen of Poplar Bluff warmed up the crowds with a Fleetwood Mac hit, “Say You Love Me.” Later, were sets by local bands, Cane Creek Revue and Stay the Sane. The cook shack served a choice of fried catfish or hot dogs and in addition to enjoying the new park, families divided their time between bounce houses, visiting a petting zoo provided by Cockadoodle Moo of Puxico, trying to “dunk the sheriff” and participating in a variety of yard games. In addition, the Naylor Fire Department provided a smoke house for children to learn about fire safety and prevention, and a friendly bidding war took place in the silent auction tent, where choices included more than 40 items and gift baskets. A favorite fun activity was a family foam party, a new addition to ReeseFest. “This was such a hit during Naylor Heritage Days, the foundation bought a foam machine so that we can make it a permanent part of both events,” said Ryan Ainley, who along with his wife, Krissie, founded the Reese Madeline Ainley Foundation in memory of their three-year-old daughter who died in a drowning accident. ReeseFest is anually hosted by the foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which serves the community of Naylor through various outreach projects which include (but are not limited to) providing scholarships, school supplies and many other benefits to Naylor R-II students, and helping families in times of need. On behalf of the foundation, the Ainleys expressed their appreciation for all those who came out and celebrated. “This event would not have been made possible without the help of our amazing volunteers, the Foster, McDaniel, Sullivan, Byrd and Tharp families,” they said. All proceeds from ReeseFest and 100 percent of all donations to the foundation go back into the Naylor community to benefit its families.
