Writing Prompt #1 for Current River Writers
Anxiety and procrastination appear the moment I think about attempting to write fiction. I'm at home with those two behaviors, so I decided to plow through and delve right in, though in baby steps. Prompt #1: Describe your adult imaginary friend - appearance, behavior, outings, conversations. (300 word limit)
Here is my version.
To be my imaginary friend
Would be no easy task,
Since one never knows the questions
I might ask.
I’ve no particular pref’rences -
A machine or a creature -
But there sure is one mandatory
Feature.
Flexibility could serve my moods,
Robotic then cutie?
Either could help me get off my
Patootie.
Since only I see the shape it takes,
Stern? Cuddly? No matter.
Its choice. Just keep me from
The Mad Hatter.
My rare friend needs the mind of AI.
One that knows how I THINK.
I’ve multiple flaws but THAT one
Makes me sink.
My friend’s called IF - it can read my mind,
I’ll know all my options
And their outcomes - so I’ll head off
Inactions.
IF - he knows my dreams and desires,
I’ll spend my days happy,
IF - he’ll make my decisions
Quite snappy!
IF - she’s a she on our jolly jaunts,
My attire will be right.
I won’t be changing clothes often -
Dawn till night.
IF - it’s a crystal ball any time,
I’ll know how the day ends.
I won’t worry about what’s around
Each bend.
IF - it’s a feline some of the time,
A day to share my lap,
I love sweet serene times that don’t
Need a map.
IF - they send thoughts to ease fear and pain.
Then I’ll handle my doubts
That thwart all my intentions -
Inside and out.
IF - it knows the demons I battle -
I do not overdrink
Or overwork but OH! I DO
Overthink.
IF - he cures me of that one habit,
I’d be happy each day,
For my thoughts they perplex me
In ev’ry way.
IF, there’s a man who does things stellar,
I’ve no need for you, friend.
Albert - my handsome guyde -
My spirit he mends.
