Some Things DO Change
Six years ago I shared observations from my journey into boomer-hood. Some perspectives have not changed, like “savoring the season as lightning bugs, butterflies and hummingbirds leave us” and anticipating the awesome-ness of autumn.
In the midst of the boomer-hood jungle now, this old dog has learned some new tricks.
1. I didn’t cook for one. (Ya know, cooking for two does not increase the mess, so I plan for leftovers or sharing).
2. I invested in designer paper ware. (Now more aware of my footprint, that has decreased).
3. Matched socks are STILL overrated.
4. TV viewing was a frustrating thief of my time. (That was BEFORE I knew about the Roku, Pluto, Paramount jazz and smart TV’s. No more planning life around a programming schedule).
5. I missed talking on the phone. (Not so much any more. I’m out of talking and into texting. That’s sad).
6. Fastfood had lost its appeal. (MORE true. I want to eat while chatting or reading or absorbing life around me. Slower makes it easier to savor food AND moments).
7. My cat was the weirdest of all who had ever adopted me. (Sadly, Davinci died but there are four vying to outshine him. I won’t tell them that’s not possible; we are having fun).
8. The older-people shoes in my closet…(I tossed them. My ‘oldness’ is more comfortable; those shoes were not).
9. Dressing for my age didn’t matter. (I still dress for mood and comfort).
10. Classic rock STILL rocks. (So does jazz. I’ve a new appreciation).
11. I used my iphone for everything. (Not these days. I removed email and work stuff so I wouldn’t miss where I’m going).
12. I still say NOTHING tops hand-dipped chocolate ice cream. (These days I pop a lactaid pill first).
