This Wacky Wonderful Day
This was the column for June 29, 2022.
A year shy of seven decades…a half-century plus a score, almost…3,600 weeks and two days…25,202 days…That’s a lot of days. I haven’t always made the most of them, but considering the big picture, I’ve had happy, busy, unique-to-me adventurous ones so far. Even stories about opportunities I didn’t grab add some flair to my life’s spin.
I pray my life keeps spinning for another three decades at least. Do I want to cram as much as possible into those 10,958 days? No. What I DO want is to savor more in each twenty-four hours, to:
*honor ties that bind me to family past and present, to friends far and near, those currently counted as well as those not met yet;
*purposefully experience daily an aspect of Mother Nature - a plant, a place, a pleasantry, a perplexity - and learn a new fact;
*seek out smile-worthy people, places and things;
*smile anyway;
*perceive with a lens of gratitude and joy;
*regularly record in one place words about my my journey;
*create more fun and laugh more at myself and the world.
To kickstart this day with fun and laughter in mind, I referenced the wacky, bizarre calendar and found four items to celebrate on June 29.
It’s Camera Day. I’m going to click that shutter 69 times and print the images.
It’s a Hug Holiday. Don’t panic! I’m not aiming to find 69 folks to hug, but I won’t be stingy with them either.
It’s International Mud Day, a reason to get my hands dirty repotting some plants.
It’s Waffle Iron Day. I don’t have one, but I will order waffles with strawberries and lots of whipped cream!
Add Teresa’s birthday to the list. Maybe I’m wacky and bizarre, too.
