Rebooting Recommended
For reasons over my head, rebooting WiFi routers periodically is advised. That is an action I finally learned to do BEFORE seeking assistance when I had tech issues since it was always the first suggestion. Now it’s recommended to do so now and then to avoid usual issues and more. Maintenance and prevention ease and sometimes alleviate problem-solving.
Maybe this works for our bodies’ systems, too. If we periodically reboot our psyches BEFORE we feel out of control and powerless, maybe we can avoid high anxiety, panic attacks and periods of overwhelm. Practicing maintenance and prevention might aid us in dealing with the sad, unexpected, jolting news we face often these days.
Rebooting certainly varies from individual to individual since we each start our days with unique experiences and perspectives. Seeking professional guidance is an option. Between periodic visits to a counselor who helps me avoid withdrawals to a dark rabbit hole, here are a few ways I reboot for maintenance of my own mental health and prevention of melt-downs.
*Laughing. Adults-only games and television offer comic relief. Because I find his comedy and ventriloquist art fascinating and hilarious, I am a fan of Jeff Dunham and his entourage of dummies. The ‘old’ British comedies, most fine for family viewing, are also great fun.
*Gravel-road es*Lcapes. Some on favorite routes, others on new ones, but always enhanced with a Krey bologna sandwich, bag of chips, ice cold soda and sing-along tunes. Solo or with passengers.
*Quiet nature walks. Sometimes a nature ‘seat’ instead, listening to Mother Nature’s music. Digging in dirt in a flowerbed counts. These times help me pray.
*Connections - the unplugged kinds. Conversations with God, loved ones and friends enrich life. To me, reading a good book creates connections, too, via my own mind.
Rebooting regularly is recommended.
