The Prodigal Cat
He gave me a scare, this cat o' mine.
Did he get a dare, from feline to feline,
To vanish for days, have a trip so fine,
To teach me ways to give him more time?
***** ***** ***** *****
A handsome male with no reason to roam...
I'd go off the rails if he ever left home,
With no care for the calendar or clock,
Leaving me in my chair in solitude to rock.
***** ***** ***** *****
That I did spoil him there is no doubt.
It's a great toil letting him in and out.
No litter box would work for this finicky feline,
He goes in the rocks and dirt like a canine.
***** ***** ***** *****
His food is so fine, costs extra bucks for sure,
Without him I whine - he's a Siamese demure
Until he's ignored, then he plays games.
With feelings right sore, humans do the same.
***** ***** ***** *****
His name I'd call, in circles I'd walk,
My hopes would fall, to myself I'd talk.
He was listening but staying under the house,
My eyes glistening as he played Cat & Mouse.
***** ***** ***** *****
He's purring loudly as he sits at my feet.
My heart beats proudly, he's acting so sweet.
For three days I pined, of him no trace,
Now DaVinci is fine but I'm a basket case!
