The Day After Christmas
”Tis the day after Christmas and all thru the house,
Every creature is stirring, except for the spouse.
The stockings are empty – no one seems to care
That all of their contents are tossed everywhere.
The children are cranky, mischief runs thru their heads
So Mom and Dad are hesitant to go back to bed.
But if the household would quiet down for a nap,
Cleaning the messes would then be a snap.
Mom is certainly tired of the clutter
But not one single word does she dare to mutter.
Maybe to the mall she could drive in a dash
To return all the stuff that ‘Santa’ did smash.
With so much commotion no one would know.
She might even find some bargains to stow
In her secret place so the frowns of her dear
She’d have no far-fetched silly reason to fear.
From mark-downs and clearance she’d have her pick.
To pull that off would be oh, so slick!
But he would be real quick to find blame
When he found they had not one cent to their name.
He would surely yell and call her a vixen
And she’d have a lot to worry about fixin.
So she speaks not a word and gets straight to her work,
All the time thinking her hubby a jerk.
But he’s sneezing and coughing and blowing his nose;
He seems miserable from his head to his toes.
The children grow weary of all the new toys
And soon all are blessed with the ceasing of noise.
The kids head to bedrooms plumb out of sight
As Mom and Dad settle in for a long peaceful night.
They eat some pie slices topped with a cherry
And marvel they all had a Christmas so merry.
I hope all of you, dear readers, are elated
That I decided this version would be so abbreviated.
