Thanksgiving Reflections
“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11
That is a verse I memorized as a child. The years added to my life have added a bit more understanding to this statement in Paul’s letter to the Philippians. One thing I know for sure is not to get too comfortable or content with any situation, for it is sure to change in some way. Granted, not all changes are bad.
“Change is the only constant in life,” said Heraclitus of Ephesus, a Greek philosopher who lived 535 BC to 475 BC. My impression of his lifestyle way back then is that it was one lived in extreme slow motion compared to the lives we lead today. Maybe experiencing life at a slower pace is a pre-requisite for becoming a philosopher. These days we study philosophy, but I don’t know many who consider ‘philosopher’ as a career objective. Not too many job openings to fill.
Many of us slow down on purpose and reflect on blessings during this Thanksgiving season. I do believe that God’s love is the one true constant in our lives and it can add a positive dimension to our perspectives.
Prayer – the foundation of my day –
Optimistic – my spirit when I pray.
Serenity and sanity – both worthy goals,
Insightful glimpses fill some holes.
Thankful for breath and time,
Illuminating life that today is mine.
Vital to me are friends and family,
Embracing now and what will be.
Happy Thanksgiving!
