Current Devotion
I did not grow up on a Current bank,
Twas due to a simple switch of fate.
For that I have dear Dad to thank
An ultimatum - city or country - from Mom, his mate.
At age of five I started to school.
Sidewalks and stop signs led the way.
Wasn't in Pratt I learned the golden rule.
Love of country life, though, still strong today.
The trips back I couldn't begin to count,
Grandparents, cousins, and uncles to see.
Impossible to place a dollar amount
On the lure of love and family.
Current River was a familiar backdrop.
Picnics, rock skipping, dipping and swimming.
Photos of crystal waters and fun non-stop
Keep the precious memories from dimming.
Pittman Ferry made my knees knock.
Dips in chilly pools cooled this cranky kid.
Big Spring viewings from atop a rock
And wading made the list of things we did.
Boat rides, too, for me were scary,
But canoeing and tubing were fun.
Any time on Current River was merry
Even the first cold dip in early summer sun.
The Current aided Cupid in landing darts
To spark love and dreams with splashes.
Life mingles joy and sorrow in yearning hearts.
The river memorializes honorable ashes.
Nothing compares to a toddler's laughter
At mini-waves and slippery minnows,
Or Mom's relief at naptime after.
The Current becomes the place to go.
Deer Lodge, Deer Leap, Murphey's Bar and Float Camp,
Come up at reunions galore.
For sure river memories keep eyes damp,
Living and reliving means the Current makes more.
We can't help but strive to share
With newbies the beauty of our gem,
And warnings that feet should not be bare!
Hats and sunscreen a plus - it's up to them.
The Current is a source of endless connection,
You've heard of six degrees of separation?
With enthusiasm and endless devotion
We meet others with entwining ties and elation.
